The lower house isn't affected by the upper Crimson and the upper house isn't affected by the lower Crimson. But the middle house you're in gets affected by both and so is not valid. The message should say "This housing is corrupted" if it's affected by Crimson/Corruption, but this doesn't always happen.

I’m confused, you can make houses 5x13 with the floor being 2 platforms and a block. Those work fine with the whole floor being taken up by a crafting table and a chair, so it’s obviously not open floor space that’s the issue.
