I was thinking the only way to earn gold was through deathmatches. I got 950 gold from finishing all 21 waves of horde as well as 800 or so EXP. But please don't expect that every time, you probably need to cheese the last few waves to finish horde mode. Depending on your score you can earn more! I had 1250 gold once.
